The Powerful Impact of Light It Blue

The Powerful Impact of Light It Blue

On September 3rd, for the first time in history, iconic buildings in every state in the US lit blue for prostate cancer awareness. To celebrate this landmark event, the Prostate Cancer Foundation hosted its inaugural Light It Blue event in Santa Monica, CA.

The Light It Blue Event brought together celebrities, prostate cancer survivors, cancer patient caregivers, and those who support eliminating all cancer. Attendees included Tommy Chong (actor/writer, “Cheech and Chong” and prostate cancer survivor), James Pickens, Jr. (actor, “Grey’s Anatomy”), Rosey Grier (ex-NFL Player and PCF Celebrity Ambassador), and many more.

The inspirational group of attendees stood together and watched as the iconic Pacific Wheel at Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier came to life in a dazzling blue light show. But the significance of the Light It Blue event reaches far beyond those who attended. With buildings in all 50 states and D.C. lighting blue, and the media coverage that highlighted this tremendous feat, millions of people were relayed one critically important message: get screened for prostate cancer.

Funding life-saving research is at the core of the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s mission, but it is through awareness that we maximize the lives saved by our research.

We are incredibly grateful to each and every building that helped us Light It Blue in support of prostate cancer awareness, the attendees of our inaugural Light It Blue event, and to all who have donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation over the past 26 years, helping us decrease deaths from prostate cancer by more than 50%.
